Military culture encourages us to push through tough times, carry the extra weight, and be the team member that everyone else can lean on. This attitude makes it tough for service members to talk to others about mental health issues and take charge of their health.
Road Home Program
The Road Home Program at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago is a team of nationally recognized experts trained in military culture and skilled in the evaluation and treatment of trauma-based injury, including PTSD, MST and depression.
We understand what you’re going through. Many of us are veterans, so we know the struggles of military service and reintegration firsthand.
Intensive Outpatient Program
The Road Home Program at Rush meets the challenges of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) including PTSD induced by military sexual trauma (MST), depression and other conditions arising from military service head-on with a two-week treatment program called the Intensive Outpatient Program.
The IOP is an innovative, individualized PTSD treatment program that condenses six months of therapy into two weeks. And the results have been incredible.
How the program is structured
The IOP reduces the symptoms of PTSD and MST by connecting veterans and service members to individual and group therapy. We begin with an individual evaluation and treatment plan.
You will work closely with your therapist to address the individual challenges you are facing and explore methods to reduce and cope with your symptoms. During group therapy, you will be part of a group who understand what you are going through and with whom you can share your story, build relationships and trust and improve self-confidence.
The IOP provides care and support to improve your general health and promote your overall well-being as well. This includes a daily regimen of physical fitness, stress-reduction training and wellness practices. Individual sessions will focus on mindfulness meditation, sleep hygiene, nutrition, financial counseling, pain management and relationship issues.
Every day we will include a five-minute evaluation which will give you and your care team insight into your progress and a review to insure you continue to improve throughout the two weeks.
The results
50% of the people who complete the Intensive Outpatient Program no longer meet the clinical definition for symptoms of PTSD one year after they leave the IOP.
When you’re ready, we’re ready.
