The USO is celebrating its 80th anniversary tomorrow, Feb. 4. Founded in 1941, the USO has continued to be the nation’s leading organization dedicated to serving the men and women in the U.S. military and their families.
USO centers around the globe will be honoring the anniversary, but the USO West region will be participating in special events at their locations. The USO West region includes locations in California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Alaska, Utah, and Montana.
Some of the special events in the USO West region include:
-
The USO Northern California will celebrate with a physically-distanced Operation BBQ Birthday Bash for 300 medical military service members at David Grant Hospital at Travis AFB, including service members providing vaccinations to the military and veterans.
-
USO Arizona is providing Operation Birthday Breakfast for military service members and recruits at the Military Entrance Processing Station in Phoenix.
-
USO San Diego is doing Operation Cake Drop at all bases and installations throughout San Diego in honor of USO’s birthday.
-
USO Nevada is celebrating with Operation Cupcake Drop by distributing cupcakes at all of their centers including McCarran International Airport, Nellis AFB, and Creech AFB.
-
Bob Hope USO is celebrating with Operation Cupcake Drop at locations throughout Southern California including at the Theme Building at LAX airport, as well as BBQ and Cupcakes for service members training at Joint Forces Training Base Los Alamitos.
-
USO Alaska to celebrate the birthday with distributions across the state.
The USO is also encouraging supporters to join in on their Force Behind the Forces® to Give More Than Thanks campaign. This campaign asks that the community actively works to show gratitude towards service members and their families in different ways: pledging their support, donating funds, choosing the USO as a donation location for services like Lyft and AmazonSmile, setting aside funds for the Combined Federal Campaign, utilizing the USOWishbook, and more. You can find all the ways you can ‘give more thanks’ by visiting the USO website.
About the USO
The USO strengthens America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home, and country, throughout their service to the nation. The USO is a private nonprofit organization, not a government agency. The programs, service, and entertainment tours are made possible by the support of corporate partners, caring citizens, and the dedication of their volunteers and staff.
