A military spouse led nonprofit is taking over Kansas City this fall. The team from the Inspire Up Foundation hopes you’ll join them.
From November 4 through November 6, the newly-launched You’re Worth It Conference will be held in person for military spouses of all branch affiliations. According to the Chief Financial Officer and Coast Guard Spouse, Jessica Manfre, it was inspired by their own experiences.
“We’ve been to really amazing events and although we were definitely motivated by the speakers, it fades when you return to the reality of military spouse life,” she explained. “With all of that in mind we designed workshops that allow spouses to walk away with tangible skills and the resources they need to dive in.”
Partner and Air Force veteran spouse Brittany Boccher echoed the sentiment.
“If a spouse takes our branding course, they leave with the knowledge they need but also a professional headshot,” she explained.
Other workshops include courses on topics like finance, employment and tackling mental health discussions. In a nod to their roots, a lot of the speakers have been honored with Military Spouse of the Year awards through Armed Forces Insurance.
“It was important for us to have facilitators who were experts in their field and there’s no better way to ensure it than to work with these incredible spouses,” Manfre said.
The tickets to the conference include food for the entirety of the event as well as all the supplies for each course. Boccher revealed that in many of the courses spouses will be walking away with over $100 in items to support their journey.
Held at the Radisson Hotel in Lenexa, Kansas — spouses coming from out of town can book a room for the event for $70. “Making it affordable for every single spouse to attend was a priority for all of us,” Boccher said. She also shared that the team had received a special donation to be utilized for scholarships for spouses who need help affording the costs, too.
The nonprofit was established in 2020 following the successful launch of GivingTuesdayMilitary, a campaign for kindness. Since its founding, the organization has continued to create programming and initiatives to support those in need.
“At the heart of all of us is the passion for service. This is another way of doing and giving back to a community which gives so much,” Boccher explained. “There’s so much to take in with the conference between the courses, celebration and giveaways but we’ll also be coming together in a joint service project for the Veterans Community Project.”
Participants will have an opportunity to build blessing bags for homeless veterans and hear about the veteran-run organization. It’s a kickoff to GivingTuesday and an opportunity to do something special for the local community welcoming the group in, Boccher said.
Sponsored by Caliber Home Loans, Armed Forces Insurance, Radisson Hotel Americas and PCSgrades, the You’re Worth It Conference is aiming to tackle the pain points felt within the military, veteran and first responder spouse community, both said. Manfre added that after over a year of the pandemic, the community is hurting.
“It’s been proven that loneliness can contribute to poor health outcomes. When you factor in our disconnect as we move and lack of support, it really is a recipe for disaster,” she shared. Though we don’t promise to solve all of the problems with one event we hope we can stand in the gap and help make a difference.”
