Though it’s known as “SoCal’s Fun City,” the city of Buena Park, California, does take one thing very seriously: honoring America’s military every holiday season.
Located just 5 miles from Disneyland and 20 miles from Los Angeles, Buena Park, California, and nearby cities offers a slew of exclusive deals to veterans and active U.S. Military each November and December.
And this family friendly city wants to make sure U.S. military members know how appreciated they are in Buena Park.
It’s a tradition that stretches back to Knott’s Berry Farm, California’s first theme park. Knott’s Berry Farm has been around for nearly a century, beginning with a roadside berry stand that evolved into a restaurant; a western-themed town; and first-class rollercoasters, thrill rides and live entertainment. Tickets are $19.99 for active U.S. Military or veterans, and up to five guests.
And those Buena Park businesses feature some pretty heavy hitters, including not only Knott’s Berry Farm, but dinner show venues like Medieval Times and Pirates Dinner Adventure. Medieval Times, like the name suggests, is an immersive dining experience filled with jousting and swordfights. Tickets purchased at participating military bases include a free royalty upgrade, which includes priority access, VIP seating and other freebies. Booking online also gets you discounted tickets with your military ID. There’s even a trained falcon that flies around the room.
Pirates Dinner Adventure likes to get children involved in their shows by bringing them on stage and competing in challenges with the help of pirates in the show. In that vein, Pirates offers veterans and active-duty free admission with the purchase of three other tickets on Veterans Day. Other admissions can use their regular military discount with code MILITARY. The person receiving free admission must have a matching military ID.
Buena Park is more than just sunshine, roller coasters and dinner shows. Plenty of hotels, restaurants and other businesses are involved in the military deals.
More than a dozen hotel options are available for veterans traveling to Buena Park – and all a short distance from Knott’s Berry Farm, Disneyland, Huntington Beach and Los Angeles. Guests of the Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel can use the code “MILVET” for the exclusive military rate. Courtyard Marriott, DoubleTree by Hilton and Fairfield Inn offer flat rates for U.S. military members. Meanwhile, Hampton Inn & Suites, Good Nite Inn, Best Inn & Suites, Surestay Hotel, Days Inn, Howard Johnson, and Quality Inn & Suites offer a discount from the daily rate. More information on area hotels can be found at https://www.visitbuenapark.com/hotels.
A relatively new entrant on the Buena Park foodie block is Beach Boulevard Club, a 1920s-themed speakeasy with dueling piano entertainment. The entryway looks like a cabinet, but it opens up into a doorway. Not only does the establishment offer free cover to veterans and active-duty military on Veterans Day with purchase of another admission― they get a free cocktail or appetizer, too.
Other local meal options include Broken Yolk (where service members with an active ID receive 10% off); Black Bear Diner; Eggslice (10% discount with an active military ID); SUP Noodle Bar and Dickey’s BBQ Pit, which both offer 10% off food and drinks for veterans and active-duty military.
Buena Park is conveniently located 20 miles from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and has easy access to both Interstate 91 and Interstate 5. Plus, Disneyland (which also offers special discounts to military) is a mere five miles away! Potential military tourists can plan a three-day stay with the city’s handy suggested itinerary online. It’s all part of Buena Park’s gratitude.
