A veteran couple self-funded a family-fashion venture that creates space for diversity and inclusion in apparel. Toni Glaze, a military spouse based in Houston, Texas, is the president and founder of Tony by Toni. Named for the couple’s 7-year-old son, the apparel brand celebrates family through inclusive, matching styles. She launched the company on Tony’s birthday in 2018, after noticing a gap in the market. Traditional mother-daughter or father-son outfits didn’t quite fit what she envisioned, so she and her husband, Air Force veteran Corey Glaze, designed something new.
“We’re creating that magic of the holiday season, but making it available year-round,” Glaze said. “You don’t just hang out with your family at Christmas, and you don’t just get together for Thanksgiving. It’s all of those moments throughout the year. It doesn’t have to be a holiday for you to want to showcase your family.”
Today, Tony by Toni offers matching outfits for parents, grandparents and even aunts and uncles, with adult sizes up to 4X and children’s options starting at 3–6 months. This holiday season, families can even find cozy matching sweatshirts on the website, available for 20% off while supplies last. Their new historically Black college or university (HBCU) collection with official branding from Howard University, Tuskegee University and North Carolina A&T also comes in inclusive sizes.
“Family looks different for every single household, and so we’ve adapted to what family means and what family looks like,” Glaze said. “Our brand is a reflection of what the market is, which is like a melting pot of families of all different sizes, dynamics and cultures.”
Glaze understands how quality time with family can have a deeper meaning for military families, and said her brand personifies those family ties as defined by its slogan: Love is the Fabric of a Family. She hopes families think of Tony by Toni when they’re planning those holiday activities and photos. The ultimate goal is to become a household name and expand into retail stores to become more accessible to those looking to represent their families through fashion.
“I would like to see us become synonymous with the word ‘family,’” Glaze said. “I hope that if there’s ever a moment where somebody is thinking of something to do with their family that they think of us. Or just during any moment that needs something special, and where family is a representation of what you’re feeling.”
