For nearly 70 years, Troy University has proudly supported military service members and their families, and that commitment is as strong today as any point in the University’s history.
Founded in 1887, Troy University is a public, historic, international University with more than 159,000 alumni. Students choose TROY for its quality academic programs, reasonable cost, outstanding faculty and flexible in-class, online and blended class offerings.
TROY’s history of service dates back to 1950, when it began offering voluntary education to soldiers at the Army’s Fort Rucker, and the University has continued to deliver undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate degrees through a variety of on-base, near-base and online programs.
Through the years, TROY’s commitment to serving the military-affiliated student has only continued to grow. TROY’s Military and Family Scholarship helps active duty, Reserves, and veterans reach their educational goals by capping tuition costs at $250 per credit hour. Through the scholarship, spouses and dependents also receive up to 50% in tuition savings.
The University established TROY for Troops Centers at campuses in Alabama, support centers outside of the state and online to provide a one-stop shop to meet the unique needs of active duty or reserve personnel, veterans and military dependents.
Through the TROY for Troops Centers, the University also offers options for military students that recognize academic achievement, while also providing peer-to-peer support in academic efforts. The SALUTE Veterans National Honor Society recognizes veterans, active-duty service members, National Guard members and Reservists who have been honorably discharged or who are currently serving who maintain a 3.0 grade-point average or higher. In addition, the Student Veterans Alumni Chapter provides peer-to-peer support for veteran students’ academic success, as well as camaraderie during their transition to college life.
In addition, TROY pays special tribute to the military each year by designating a home football game as the Military Appreciation game.
TROY’s commitment to service men and women has been recognized nationally by several publications and organizations. College Factual ranked TROY among the nation’s top 15 percent of universities for their service to the military. Military Times ranked TROY as the top four-year university in Alabama and in the top 40 nationally in its “Best for Vets 2019” rankings. SR Education Group included TROY in its “Top Military-Friendly Online College” and “Top Yellow Ribbon Online Schools” rankings. U.S. News and World Report ranked TROY among the best universities in its “2019 Best Online Bachelor’s Programs for Veterans” ranking.
